2015
Someone peed in a cup.
We isolated and grew proximal tube renal epithelial cells from the urine and, using three different methods, reprogrammed them into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
We developed one of the world's most rigorous quality control funnels for evaluating iPSCs and their derived cell types.
2025
To date, we have produced and defined over 25 distinct cell types including multipotent stem cells and fully differentiated cell types.
We use these cell types to discover and develop interventions to slow biological aging and repair aged cells and tissue (regenerative medicine). These cell types form the core of our regenerative medicine efforts, but also offer a window into aspects of our preventive medicine research.
